The incident took place while the bishop was speaking, and local Sydney time confirmed the news.
Bishop Mar Mari Emmanuel, born on 19th July 1970, is an Assyrian Christian cleric and the current bishop of Christ the Good Shepherd Church. He was conducting the Sunday evening mass when the alleged attack occurred.
Following the incident, New South Wales Premier Chris Minns called for calm. The motive behind the attack is still under investigation, and no arrests have been made so far.
