Eagles Waive 51-Year-Old Bernard Williams
29 Years After His Final NFL Game

The Philadelphia Eagles made a couple of roster moves on Thursday, including waiving offensive tackle Bernard Williams. Williams, who is 51 years old, hasn't played in the NFL since 1994. The Eagles' current left tackle, Jordan Mailata, was not yet born when Williams played his last game.
Williams was a first-round pick of the Eagles in 1991. He started 13 games at right tackle as a rookie and started all 16 games at left tackle in 1992. However, Williams' career was derailed by injuries. He missed the entire 1993 season with a knee injury and played in just one game in 1994 before suffering a season-ending ankle injury.
Williams was waived by the Eagles in 1995 and never played in the NFL again. He spent the next few years playing in the Canadian Football League before retiring in 1998.
Williams' waiver is largely a procedural move. The Eagles needed to clear a roster spot for defensive tackle Milton Williams, who was activated from the injured reserve list.
