Airman Rescues Stranded Hikers During Flash Flood

On Monday, July 11, 2023, a flash flood swept through Zion National Park, Utah, stranding hikers and causing significant damage to trails and infrastructure.
Airman First Class Andrew Willis, a member of the Utah Air National Guard, was on a training mission when he spotted the floodwaters rising rapidly. He immediately diverted his aircraft and landed in a nearby field.
Willis and his crew rescued 12 hikers who had been stranded on a narrow ledge by the floodwaters. The hikers were cold, wet, and exhausted, but thanks to Willis' quick thinking and bravery, they were all safely evacuated.
