Thyssenkrupp Nucera Secures $50 Million Grant for Green Hydrogen Production

Revolutionizing Energy Supply with Industrial-Scale Hydrogen

Houston, March 18, 2024

Thyssenkrupp nucera, a global leader in green hydrogen technology, has been awarded a $50 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to accelerate the development of clean energy solutions.

This grant is a testament to Thyssenkrupp nucera's commitment to driving the energy transition and reducing global carbon emissions. The company has already supplied electrolyzers with an installed capacity of over 700 megawatts (MW) to H2 Green Steel for the world's first large-scale green steel production facility.

"This grant is a significant milestone in our mission to decarbonize the industrial sector and create a more sustainable future," said Dr. Christoph Noeres, CEO of Thyssenkrupp nucera. "We are grateful for the support of the DOE and will use this funding to further enhance our technology and accelerate the commercialization of green hydrogen at industrial scale."

The grant will enable Thyssenkrupp nucera to invest in research and development, scale up production, and establish partnerships to advance the hydrogen economy. The company plans to develop innovative electrolyzer systems, explore new applications for hydrogen, and collaborate with industries to integrate hydrogen into their operations.

"Green hydrogen has the potential to transform multiple industries and reduce our reliance on fossil fuels," said Dr. Mark Grayson, Director of the DOE's Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies Office. "Thyssenkrupp nucera's expertise and leadership in this field will play a crucial role in advancing the deployment of clean hydrogen technologies."

With this grant, Thyssenkrupp nucera is poised to lead the global transition towards a cleaner and more sustainable energy future.
